Achimenes grandiflora
Grown at Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh
A bed of A. grandiflora is being used as a kind of ground cover here, a significantly more spectacular sight than is apparent from this poor-quality photo. Part of the problem with the photo is that I had to take the picture from some distance -- building maintenance had closed off the area, and scaffolding is just out of sight to the right. Another photo, taken at Kew, also shows this species grown as a groundcover.
