Drymonia semicordata
Grown by Bob Stewart
Note the decorative leafy bracts and calyces. A photo of a flower growing in nature in Peru can be seen here, and more of a whole plant here. The flower and the vining plant form can be seen here in cultivation. Other Drymonias with colorful calyces include D. strigosa and D. coriaceae.
Vegetatively, this plant is a sprawling wandering vine with relatively thin stems, but is much more compact than many Drymonias. The total diameter of the plant at the time of the photograph was less than two feet, although it also climbs up a hanger in the greenhouse for a foot or two.
