Kohleria allenii is a "tropical" Kohleria, better adapted to the heat and humidity of Malaysia (where this plant was grown) than most members of the genus, which are adapted to higher altitudes and cooler temperatures. This plant was grown in full sun, and stems reached or exceeded 130 cm (4'). Note the open flower shape and sturdiness of the flower, perhaps indicating bat pollination. The flower is similar in shape (but not color!) to the bat pollinated Paliavana prasinata.
A closer view of the flowers on another plant illustrate some variability in these seed-grown plants.
